The Secret Lives of Birds: Samoa Edition

Samoa Country Magazine’s Birding Blogger, Karen Baird shares her birding adventures in a regular column all about Samoa’s native birds. Whether you’re a professional or amateur birder or just curious about the bird life in Samoa, you’ll discover more about these elusive winged creatures and why everyone should care about what happens to them. Birds are so closely tied to their eco-systems that they are often the first creatures to let us know that something is wrong!

About Karen Baird: My Dad was nuts about birds. It was his passion and his profession – recording and photographing birds in NZ, as well as sharing his love for them with schools and the public. I always wanted to follow in his footsteps and studied zoology at University, followed by a career in conservation spanning several decades. My passion for birds included work in the Galapagos Islands and PNG and I also ran a wildlife tour company in NZ for many years. More recently I started working for SPREP as their Threatened and Migratory Species Adviser which covers a range of species groups whales and dolphins, sharks and rays, marine turtles, dugong and of course seabirds.
